Episode 46

The Mutual Broadcasting System brings you another episode of Life in Hyperion.

Today's episode: "It Only Takes a Moment", Part 5

Last week, we finally ended our third serial and began our fourth with Polly receiving an offer from the owner of Tom's Place to perform there on the following Saturday.  On the following Monday, she tells Cy and Conrad.  Cy, seeing a chance to add to his legacy, decides to become Polly's manager and plan out her career, to predictions of doom from Conrad for Cy's plan to help Polly.  Ignoring it, Cy arranges a rehearsal for Polly with Elmer's band the Sidewinders.
Meanwhile, Cy's boarder Thomas received a phone call from Darlene, who asked to come over.  Thomas allowed her over and the two had an interesting time, which included Darlene planting a kiss on Thomas and helping him compose a song.  When she left, Cy predicted romance and Thomas predicted nothing.  With that, Cy headed off to the rehearsal.
As we begin this week, Cy and Conrad have arrived at the rehearsal, meet the band, saw the arrival of Polly, and now the rehearsal is about to begin...

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The band then make their way to their rehearsal space and begin setting up their equipment, including a place for Polly to play and sing. Cy, Conrad, and Polly look on as the band take their spots and begin to warm up.
"Like a glove." says Garrett, who then lets off a bassline.
"Polly, get over here." says Danny.
Polly then rushes over, gets her guitar out of its case, and then strums and tunes it up along with the rest of the Sidewinders.
"Now, what song shall we do first?" asks Polly.
"How about the first song you played during the rehearsal for your first gig?" says Cy.
"Okay. 'You Ain't Goin' Nowhere'." says Polly.
Polly and the band then launch into a redition of the song, with the group easing into the same rhythm. Once there, Polly starts on the lyrics, with the Sidewinders listening to the voice that they never heard before.
"She sounds great." whispers Lee to Garrett.
"Don't I know it?" says Garrett.
Polly and the Sidewinders soon synch up greatly and finish up the song with a flurish. Cy and Conrad give cheers and claps to the performance and even a whistle from Cy.
"That was great, great!" says Cy.
"I even agree with you." says Conrad.
"You know what, let's keep going." says Danny.
"You're right. Any other requests, Mr. Manager?" asks Lee to Cy.
"The song Polly often hums. 'The Christian Life'." says Cy.
"That's good." says Danny, who then counts the band into a redition of the song.
The next day, Cy walks his way to the WHYP green room. As he does so, he sings the song "Vitamin L", with a little skip in his step as he enters the room. As he enters, he spies Phil getting a cup of coffee at the table that's the green room's snack area.
"Good morning, Phil." says Cy.
"Good morning, Cy. You seem happy this morning." says Phil.
"Phil, there's a new love connection in this, the town of Hyperion." says Cy.
"Seems like it, the way you're acting today." says Phil.
"Aren't you gonna ask me what the love connection is?" asks Cy.
"I already know about you and Joanne." says Phil.
"Not me and her. This one is a lot newer and wouldn't have been possible a week ago." says Cy.
"I hate your riddles, Cy. Why don't you tell this to Conrad?" says Phil.
"I can't. This love connection will work as long as Conrad is not told about it." says Cy.
"Does it have to do with Darlene?" asks Phil.
"You catch on fast. I've taught you well. That's why I need you to help me on this one." says Cy.
"Who has Darlene got her eye on?" asks Phil.
"Thomas." says Cy.
"You mean Thomas Cinder, the ex-con and your boarder?" asks Phil.
"Right as rain, Phil." says Cy.
"You mean those two... " says Phil.
"Yes, it's true. I can't believe it myself but it appears that melted Darlene has a thing for ex-cons." says Cy.
"Lucky you. It's nice to see Darlene fall in love after being an iceberg for so long." says Phil.
"Conrad wouldn't say that. He'd try to break them up." says Cy.
"So, let's keep it from him." says Phil.
"That was my idea first, so give me credit." says Cy.
"It's all yours, Cy." says Phil.
"Thank you." says Cy.
"Hello, guys." says Conrad, entering the room.
"Hello, Conrad. Me and Phil were just talking about Polly's rehearsal yesterday with the Sidewinders." says Cy.
"It was amazing to see." says Conrad.
"What's more amazing is that all day today, those guys and Polly are in rehearsal." says Cy.
"They'll be in performing shape by Friday." says Conrad.
"That they will." says Phil.
"And the crowd will take to Polly easily, like at Cathy's Tavern." says Conrad.
"I'll make sure of that." says Cy.
"With what?" asks Conrad.
"Posters. I'm having some made, if it's all right." says Cy.
"Fine with me." says Conrad.
"Ditto." says Phil.
"Nice to see you talking about something else other than Darlene." says Cy.
"As long as you bring up the subject... " says Conrad.
"I don't, I don't. I was just letting words fall out of my mouth, not realizing their content." says Cy.
"You do that sometimes, Cy." says Phil.
"Don't push it." says Cy.
"Got it." says Phil.
"Besides, Conrad hasn't really seen the new Darlene as much as the rest of us." says Cy.
"I wonder why." says Phil.
"A valid question, Phil. Darlene seems to be avoiding you. Could it be that you're starting to freeze yourself?" says Cy.
"I'm just worried that she's not protecting herself." says Conrad.
"From what?" asks Cy.
"From harm. The ice helped her before." says Conrad.
"Now she's melted and doing much better." says Cy.
"So you say." says Conrad.
"I have an idea. Why don't we attend the all-day rehearsal of Polly and the Sidewinders. I need to keep an eye on my investment." says Cy.
"That's a good one. I'll invite Darlene to it." says Conrad.
"And I'll bring Joanne and Thomas." says Cy.
"Good one." whispers Phil.
"Thanks." whispers back Cy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow, Cy, Conrad, Phil, Joanne, Thomas, and Darlene enjoy the all-day rehearsal and Darlene and Thomas finally seize the moment... to talk it over.

Join us, won't you?
